GermanyBautzen - after WW2 part of the new founded rail-district Cottbus and in times of Cold War well-known for the jail for political prisoners, Bautzen was a hot spot of class 52 for a long time. The engines were running in the area between Dresden, Hoyerswerda and Cottbus. More and more substituted by diesel-locomotives steam was reduced to branch-line duties, but a number of locomotives were in service until spring of 1988. The most beautiful lines were Bautzen - Grosspostwitz - Loebau and Bautzen - Baruth. In 1993 the last steam engine was withdrawn from service - it was still used for heating purposes in the depot. Several steam engines survived in museums and collections. Among them are the former heating vehicles 65.1057-2 (a rare 2-8-4T) and 52.8200-9 (reconstructed as last of it's kind in 1967).
