Germany (June 2004)
Nossen:
This centre of German steam, situated half the way between Leipzig and Dresden, was well-known for it's engines in superb condition. The less locomotives of the class 50 had substituted the old Prussian-G12 at the end the 60s and kept in services until the middle of the 80s. The star engine was 50.1002-0 because it was the last class 50-engine in original version with large smoke deflectors. Another famous locomotive was 35.1113-6, the last build passenger-locomotive in Germany, which was based here as an part of Dresden Transport Museum (VMD). The last services of this beautiful 2-6-2 class ended officially in May 1977, but 35.1113-6 came back to service for two years during the oil-crisis in 1982. The regular steam services at Nossen ended in May 1986. The last engine, 50.3539-9, was set out of use in November 1991.
