Germany

Saalfeld: Who doesn't remember this great place? Saalfeld was the last stand for the Pacifics of class 01 and the Mikados of class 41. It was the last realy impressive resort of steam in Germany. All kind of trains were running with steam until the end in 1986...

So it was no wonder why my first steam-tour leads me to Saalfeld. In summer of 1984 I came here for just one day. Because of the cheap camera and the awful ORWO-Chrome-films the pictures were very bad, but the impressions of this day are very strong until now...

01.1531-1 at Goeschwitz.   The last oil fired class 44 of the DR: 44.0104-8 dumped in Saalfeld is waiting for scrap...

41.1055-7 is coming up the gradient near Jena (August 1984).   May 1986: 41.1182-7 with Dornburg castle and passenger 4005 to Saalfeld...

Suddenly the next train came around the corner: just enough time for a shot behind with 41.1225-6 (May 1986).   Morning silence in Goeschwitz: 41.1182-7 is waiting for the next service (May 1986).
41.1130-8 is arrived in Goeschwitz with passenger 5014 from Saalfeld (May 1986).
