YugoslaviaKostolac: The open coal mine and power plant of Kostolac (about 60 km East of Belgrad) has the last 900 mm industrial railway with regular steam service in whole Europe. Build in WW2 under German occupation the network had it's great time in the 50s when more than 40 steam engines were based here. Only 5 engines survived until today. All these locos were built by Davenport Locomotive Works in Iowa/USA in 1945 and came to former Yugoslavia as a part of the UNRA-program.
The last serviceable line is just about 1 km long. It's only in use in winter-time and not very impressive, but the attraction of the railway is the depot with it's large round-house and turntable...
