Poland (April 1998)

Korsze (Korschen), situated in the beautiful landscape of Masuria in north-east Poland, was the last big stand for DRG-class 52 (Ty2/Ty42) in Europe. All branch lines around Korsze were served by these engines. Because of the many passenger trains seven locomotives were necessary every day during the last schedule period. A highlight was the daily steam-meeting on Korsze station in the morning: Three steam-trains were leaving Korsze to their destinations Bartoszyce, Skandawa and Wegorzewo.

The end came in spring of 1991: The electrification had reached Korsze. The formerly on mainline active diesel locomotives took the services from class 52. In August 1991 the last steam engine (Ty2-277) was dumped. In the following years Korsze became a stabling point for scrap - that's why you can still find class 52 here today...

Here a special thanks to all of the very friendly engine-drivers and train stuffs in Korsze. They have made many things possible you just can dream of...
Dziekuje bardzo!
