Poland (June 2002)


Ełk (Lyck) is the eastern depot in polish East Prussia. Until the early 90s several engines of class Ol49 and class Ty2 were in use on the lines to Goldap, Suwalki, Mikolajki and Rudciane Nida. The end came with the electric traction in 1991. The last steam servives were suspended in spring 1992...

Steam never came to a real end at Elk because in 1991 a railway museum was founded. So you can still see steam in use there, but only once or twice a year...
