Poland (December 2004)


Marcule - the name of this small village in the east of Poland stands for a legend: It probably was the largest locomotive cemetery of Poland. In summer of 1991 I stopped over here and was fascinated and shocked at the same time. On an big area with huge mountains of scrap iron stood lots of steam engines of all classes: Pm2 (DRG-03), Pt31 (DRG-19.1), Ok1 (pr.P8), Ty4 (DRG-44), Okl27 (DRG-75), Tr203, Ty45 and Ty51. Many locomotives were pushed and tilted from the track. It was an unbelievable picture like after a bomb attack...
